26rc1 FlatLaf Window decorations

I noted that the FlatLaf Window decorations introduced a new unwanted
behaviour.
When moving the mouse cursor to the topmost & rightmost pixel the mouse is
outside the close button and a click won't close.

I admit this is a really small problem, but I have always steered away from
themes with this pattern.

Only tested on Fedora Wayland Plasma so far.

Well things come back under new name and is hype nowadays. There is
nothing wrong with it.
What style do you prefer? The old Windows 95 style?

So Flat or Material is a matter of taste of each other and those are not
popular for nothing, until next hype is coming and we have new work to
redesign the application :D.

As other already said, you can change this LaF very easily. It could
also called Easy LaF. You can change whatever you want.

Cheers

The name FlatLaf does not quite capture the full capabilities of this excellent LAF library.

It is true that FlatLaf has a more "flat" style by default. However, it is also much easier to customize than traditional Swing LAFs. For this reason, future work on "skinning" NetBeans will likely be done by adjusting FlatLaf configuration files, rather than by introducing new LAFs at the Swing level.

You can customize FlatLaf yourself, via Tools->Options->Appearance->FlatLaf->Edit custom properties . See the documentation at https://www.formdev.com/flatlaf/properties-files/ . FlatLaf even has a "theme editor" to help with this, see https://www.formdev.com/flatlaf/theme-editor/ .

So you could actually make a non-"flat" theme by configuring FlatLaf in the right way.

All the hysteria over the "new, modern FLAT" look is quite amusing.

FlatLAF is well supported, cross platform, customizable and license compatible.

There are not exactly many swing LAFs in that category to pick from so it was in many ways

a pragmatic choice. And unless you want to implement custom components and test every

UI change N times, in such densely packed applications like NB, supporting only one main option

is too, the obvious choice.

What I read here is the jump from "i don't like it" to "its nonsense" while

also not wanting to invest time or come up with improvements.

So lets stay on topic and try to fix the 2 pixel wide dead zone on a close button.

I don't know who developed the NB implementation of FLAT. I have read it

It will, however, be a sad day if/when FLAT becomes the only available laf

FlatLaf is the only supported look and feel for the IDE, and it has the

First thing I do on a new installation is change the Laf to something that
works for me. The flat laf is just nonsense in my opinion.

not sure actually. Putting the window controls in the left corner used to be the default on both mac and ubuntu so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a flag for it - but I couldn't find it while looking through the code.

Fantastic, thank you!

PS
Is it also an option to change the order of the elements to something like
close, min, max, menu, title, quicksearch, window?

Re: 26rc1 FlatLaf Window decorations

Hi Patrik,

you could try setting the margin to 0

[linux]TitlePane.buttonsMargins = 0,0,0,0

and as bonus, to paint it red:

[linux]TitlePane.closeHoverBackground = #c42b1c

i haven't really noticed this while testing since I do have a two screen setup,
so I am trained to actually point at the button otherwise i would be on a different screen.

there is also always the option to disable window decorations, this will switch to native
window decorations but you loose the integrated title bar.
