timeout fixes.

I did my first cvs commit for jakarta-avalon and jakarta-avalon-cornerstone
today. (yuppy !!!!).

I'm hoping the timeout problems when the trigger is reset, would be solved
with these fixes. I did most of my testing with the James remote manager.
I think charles had problems while testing POP3. Can you test this again
and let me know if the fixes work for you?
