35 items in changes.xml since release 2.6.2 on July 5!

Wow, we've already accumulated 35 items in changes.xml since release 2.6.2
on July 5!

I'm not sure if that is good or bad ;-) but we should think about what we
want to complete for the next release.

Thoughts?

Gary

Considering the number of bugs and issues introduced by the 2.6 release, I
think we should make some kind of public beta of 2.7 before we make the
final release, for a bit longer than we usually do the RCs.

The changes.xml already says 2.7. The versions in the poms don’t matter. I know I have told you this before, but no matter what you set them to the release plugin is going to change them to whatever version I set when I run the release build. So modifying the pom versions now is just a waste of time.

Ok, we do have quite the flurry of branch merging here... :-) I've got a
lot I am curious to review in more detail than the scanning I've done in
the past; we are definitively in 2.7 territory here... as opposed to 2.6.3
which is the current version in the repo.

Check?

Posted by Mikael Ståldal <mi...@magine.com>.
I don't think it is necessary that everyone review every branch (although
it is not a problem if everyone do).

It would be good if Gary review LOG4J2-1512 since its about the Jackson
layout stuff which he have worked most with.

I would like to have the following completed before we release 2.7:
- https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOG4J2-1528
- https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOG4J2-1512
- https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOG4J2-1181
- https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOG4J2-1010
- https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOG4J2-63

I am waiting for review of theses branches: LOG4J-1181, LOG4J2-1512 and
LOG4J2-1528.

I'd like to finish the documentation for the AsyncAppender updates. I
believe we also have a few outstanding branches now that could make it into
2.7.

I’m sure I have stuff I want to do. It just isn’t going to get done this week. The soonest I could target doing a release would be labor day weekend. But I expect I will probably spend most of that addressing issues I’ve been trying to get to.
