[users@httpd] Updating Perl and Apache
Hi
First off, apologies for the cross-list post, but it is relevant to
both.
I am running Suse Linux 8.2, which comes with perl 5.8.0 and apache
1.3.27 as standard. I also have mod_perl installed.
I want to know how to upgrade my version of perl without breaking
everything else. I downloaded and ran a perl rpm for version 5.8.1:
% rpm -U perl-5.8.1-51.i586.rpm
That worked fine, and now I have /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.1/ directory instead
of /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/
The only thing is, now that I try to start apache:
% apachectl start
Error while loading shared libraries: libperl.so: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
Now clearly what has happened is that installing the new version of perl
has moved something, and now apache can no longer find it.
SO, what I want to know is: is there a recipe for safely and securely
upgrading my version of perl WITHOUT breaking anything?
Many thanks in advance for your help
Mick
