The normalization of the windows path was not being done on the workspace folder path.
not sure what changed in the code reorg. passing the path through vscode.Uri works.
needs *nix testing.

will do. i'm not branching, just fork and change, drop the fork after
merge. I'm git stupid(did enterprise decision/governance for quite a
while, so haven't worried about anything other than forcing into mainline
for POCs). anyway, that will explain any single-threaded behaviour.
