The current shutdown mechanism, sending a string to a port is insecure.
A new mechanism should be created so that only the process owner or the
administrator can shut the process down.

Created this enhancement request as requested in the discussion in this bug i
filed a while ago:

Why has this been marked as a duplicate?  Does the "resolved" status of this
request indicate this enhancement will not be considered?

Hi Martijn,

sorry that Remy is very quick in closing those bug reports.
But he is still right I think.

As already explained in the other bug, tomcat already has a means to 
shutdown in a more secure way in the unix environment. 
Maybe we could implement this also in Windows, but it seems to me that nobody 
asked for it by now. 
(Please consider that it is not common to give shell oder console access to 
windows servers. On unix it is.)

And please disregard Shakars text. Much of it is wrong, sorry.
If you want some more info, please lets discuss on the user list.
Or maybe on dev, if you have a suggestion how to enhance tomcat.
