[Issue 125966] New: Save as Microsoft Word 95 corrupts text in Hebrew

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=125966

          Issue ID: 125966
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Save as Microsoft Word 95 corrupts text in Hebrew
           Product: Writer
           Version: 4.1.0
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 7
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: save-export
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: arkadi_kagan@hotmail.com

Created attachment 84315

Sample ODT file with "Hello" in Hebrew

Scenario:
- Open attached document - t.odt with "hello" in Hebrew
- Save as "Microsoft Word 95"
- Close the Writer
- Open t.doc
The text is not Hebrew anymore

More info:
- Similar with "Microsoft Word 6"
- Save as "Microsoft Word 97/2000" works just fine
- Analyzing corrupted text in binary editor
    * It is a kind of UTF-8, but shifted
    * There is a pattern that allows to convert it back into UTF-8 Hebrew
For example "D7 A9" ("Shin") is converted into "C3 B9"
Not sure if this can have a value - Word document is binary and AFAIK do
not support UTF-8.

         Resolution|--- |DUPLICATE

--- Comment #1 from Regina Henschel <rb...@t-online.de> ---
I can reproduce the defect with the attached file. I personally tend to set it
to "Wontfix" because I see no need to produce Word95 format.

But there exists a patch attached to issue 61927, which seems to address the
problem. Therefore I set this issue as duplicate. If a developer has test that
patch and it does not solve this problem too, he will set this issue back to
NEW.

*** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of issue 61927 ***

See issue 107711 which demands remove of Word 95 export filter.

--- Comment #3 from Arkadi <ar...@hotmail.com> ---
For me remove could be just fine. The problem I have had is data lost.

However, there are people that save in Word 95 format just in case, like I did,
so import is still needed.
