Apache, Tomcat and Cocoon
Hi!
I have followed the installation instructions of Cocoon with Tomcat and
Apache Web Server, but Cocoon.xml could not be found at the URL:
http://localhost/cocoon/Cocoon.xml
If I type localhost:8080 instead of localhost everything is OK.
Can anybody tell me what else I need to do to access Cocoon pages simply as:
http://localhost/
or maybe http://localhost/path/to/page.xml
Thank you.
Regards,
Konstantin Piroumian.
RE: Apache, Tomcat and Cocoon

I am using Tomcat 3.2.1 and followed the instruction for compiling mod_jk
from the source when I put this line in my httpd.conf
include /usr/tomcat/conf/mod_jk.conf-auto
I get the following error when I start apache:
Cannot load .../mod_jk.so into server ... undefined symbol: jk_log
I am trying to find a binary of the mod_jk but have had not luck...

Ryan, I am including the mod_jk.conf-auto in my httpd.conf file, I have no
include in the web.xml file. This is what the documentation said, did you
mean the httpd.conf file?

I think you may have to recompile Apache to include support for mod-so if
it's not enabled.

Thank you, John.
I have already running Cocoon with Tomcat and also I have running Apache Web
Server.
So, maybe the problem is in the way that I make work them together.
I work with WinNT 4.0 now and your instructions are for Linux (or UNIX).
Although, that's not a problem - I will try to adapt them to WinNT. And I
think they will be also usefull not only for me.

So, John, could you please give me step-by-step instructions.
I am rather new to Apache Web Server and I found nothing in Cocoon docs
about mod_jk and its config files.
Thank you.

Try put the following line in your mod_jk.conf and restart apache.
JkMount /cocoon/* ajp12

RE: Apache, Tomcat and Cocoon

I recompiled the mod_jk.so from the source, this time I used:
# cd /usr/local/jakarta/jakarta-tomcat-3.2.1-src/src/native/apache1.3
# cp Makefile.linux Makefile
# vi Makefile
APXS=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs
# make
# cp mod_jk.so /usr/local/apache/libexec
Now I restart Apache with the include line in and everything is fine. It's
just that when
I go to my page //localhost/cocoon/samples/index.xml I get prompted to
download the file.
going to //localhost:8080/cocoon/samples/index.xml works fine....
Am I getting closer?

What I did is added the cocoon servlet parameters to the main web.xml in
$TOMCAT_HOME/conf/web.xml and added this line:
JkMount /*.xml ajp12
just before I include the mod_jk.conf-auto file. It works just fine for me.
