CouchDB website: contributing redesign / text help
Hi!
I recently presented a small idea on the website mailing list, it is
about making it more visual how many subprojects we have that require
so many different skillsets [1]
I teamed up with ermouth and we created a new contribution section
with cards that describe the many subprojects we have [2]. It gives a
quick overview about the many ways you can get engaged in the CouchDB
project. To be honest, ermouth did all the hard work.
We need your help! You might have noticed that our texts are not
perfect. We have a main intro text and texts on the cards. For the
cards every text can be up to 4-5 lines in our cards. They are short
slogans that should describe the project and also attract new
contributors.
Please take a look at our preview [2]!
Best,
ermouth & Robert

Very good texts!
As ermouth already mentioned: Fauxton and Website are OK, the others
are a bit too long (I tried out and put the texts in the cards)

Good, but too long – we need less adjectives.
Fauxton and Website are ok, all others definitely do not fit.

The text doesn’t claim that the core *only* shapes the future and the fact that the other areas of contributions are right there next to it should make that clear.

Heh, nice catch, I hadn’t read it that way, maybe we can rephrase the
whole thing? :)
I think the intention is 1. “we have a lot to do” 2. “we use standard tools that you are familiar with to work”

All is perfect! But CouchDB Core text need to be a bit improved:

Future of CouchDB is shaped not only by core, but Fauxton, Docs,
Marketings and all the other cards as well. Statement about "we use
... JIRA and Github to track issues and pull requests" may be read as
"We use two issues trackers and that why we have a lot of work to do".
Any thoughts?

Both @Jan and @Alexander texts have good subtle moments – but they both are
not enough good for landing, sorry. As well as my texts.
May be @Johs could help? His biz requires strong copy skills, so may be he
has someone in-staff?

TL;DR don't beg for help, attract people curiosity to help. A lot of
"Help us" sounds like as we're in catastrophic position (:

Re: CouchDB website: contributing redesign / text help

This is awesome!
Here are my suggestions:
CouchDB Core
Help to shape the future of CouchDB. Work on the core database, there is a lot of work to do. We use JIRA to track issues and GitHub for Pull Requests.
Fauxton (no change)
Help us to build the next generation Web UI for CouchDB — the component that makes CouchDB so powerful and easy to manage.
Marketing
Work with us on The CouchDB Story. Help with the organisation of how we promote CouchDB — plan meetups, write articles.
Website (no change)
Help to improve site you are now viewing. Familiar with web design? Think UX, copy or layout could be better? Welcome!
Documentation
Docs are vital to any open source project. And they can be improved indefinitely. Help to make the docs more clear, better structured, or translate them into your native language.
Guidance (no change)
Be the first person someone interacts with when they have a problem. This is a great way to help out while learning more about the project.
