hey thanks! yep lenya was originally written with an IE audience in
mind.. many years ago. imo the menu should be redone.

OK, in this case I agree with you. But when it comes
to bigger components, e.g., the workflow engine, I wouldn't
like to apply a patch for every change to the code ...

Jan is already a XIndice committer and working with Lenya for some
months now, contributing quite a lot of useful thoughts, I already
applied some of his patches. But of course this depends on his
opinion and the ones of the other committers :)

Hi:

I think people can send bug fixes and enhancements to the apache projects.
In that way, I don't see a reason to propose him as a committer. But I am
newbie in Lenya and don't know much people here. I think you have more
vision than me to tell if he can be proposed as an Apache committer or
not.

I think there were some contradictions regarding maintenance.
But maybe it would make sense to

- ask Jan if he would like to maintain the XUL menu
- propose him as a committer if he agrees

I guess it is a "technology outlook" patch....
IIRC we agreed to do/integrate some XUL/XAML stuff for post 1.2.

I wouldn't switch it on (the regular user wouldn't know that it's there,
as long it's not really finished), but the
committers can work on it together. Right now it's hard to work on it
collaboratively.

agreed, but I think we would want to have XUL within 1.2.x also.

But I hear what you are saying ;-)

I aggree on that we should wait to check that in after the weekend.
By there we could have done some testing. It don't fell right to check
that in right now!
This is why Jan has put that on the webpage!

Everybody who would like to test it please do so and report back.

If we have some feedback and experince we can include it!

my 2 cents

into a theoretically frozen branch.

You obviously went to
http://cvsdemo.bitfluxeditor.org/examples/inlineXHTML/index.html ;)
there you have to click on "Edit this article" and not on "demo"

But I'll fix the links.. Thanks for the hint

we discussed that about a week ago. it would be good to figure out if we
can store the menu definitions in XUL and transform them for non-mozilla
browsers.

You are right, but the think in Opera and IE the menu is working fine it
is the well known Mozilla & *nix bug. So fixing the *.js would not do
any good. Our focus should be to finish that XUL menu for Mozilla!

this is the beauty of XSLT and XML. We can do a nice migration path

Yep! It is better to see a part of Lenya using Mozilla than nothing. ;-)

Anyway, XUL is getting hot recently and I am sure people will be able to
contribute to the fix of it. In Cocoon there is Jörg Heinicke, he already
worked with XUL and maybe he will be willing to help us here.

BTW, We can also just fix the current menu in JS. Maybe this is easier
than XUL. I know XUL is far more powerful, but we need to think about the
problems that involve the mantain of to version:

1-JS for IE
2-XUL for Mozilla.

(Under this schema Opera is out). I don't use Opera, but I think we need
to support the most we can support.

Maybe is enough to fix JS for Mozilla and Opera. AFAIK, this is just some
"if(){} else{}" away make it work. I nobody else, I will try to fix it on
weekend.
