We had the same problem. Besides setting to application class loader first, we
found that we have to remove jars like jsp-api.jar, xml-api, xercesImpl.
Otherwise websphere will load classes from our own version and somehow trigger
its Sun RI JSF classes to be loaded, even if we set to application class loader
first.
After doing the above, from class loader trace we can see myfaces classes loaded
and pages show up ok and an 'generally' work. However, we still have one
problem -- myfaces javascript such as calendar does not work.
Somehow the javascript in myfaces1.1.3.jar is not showing up. Have checked the
MyfacesExtensions filter settings and still no resolution. Any pointers anyone?

Hello,
I'm not sure that tag files are working on websphere.
Volker can you verify this?

Tobago on Websphere 6.1 layout problems
Posted by goodusername <go...@gmail.com>.
Hi,
I'm having problem running tobago application in websphere 6.1.0.
My application is very similar to the example demo application.
I installed the application without using any workarounds (ParentLast,
myfaces jars into servers lib, etc...)
and the application is working, jsf pages are shown.
Except for the pages containing some layout tags with <jsp:body>
I tried this:
my sample.tag looks like this:
... includes ...
<f:view>
<tc:page>
<jsp:doBody>
<tc:out value="sampleLayout" />
</tc:page>
</f:view>
and my sample.jsp like this:
.... includes ....
<layout:login>
<jsp:body>
<tc:out value="sampleJspWithLayout" />
</jsp:body>
</layout:login>
this jsp gives me blank page with Error: 500 text
and the stack trace is in the attached log.
If I remove <tc:page> from my jsp page the layout contents is shown but
nothing comes in the doBody part ...
Please, help me with this one cause I'm desperate two days before
presentation :(
Thanks

Re: sortCommandHeader does not work with JSF RI
Posted by THIEN PHAM <ph...@yahoo.com>.
BTW, this is on WAS 6.1 which I think is using JSF RI,
but who knows, maybe IBM has its own implementation of
JSF just like it does with JDK.
Upon further investigation, in the case of using
Myfaces core, I found out that when
HtmlSortCommandHeader.getClientId() is invoked, the
call goes all the way up to MyFaces' UIComponentBase
which corrrectly obtains the client ID from the
container object HtmlColumns (which in turn calls
UIData.getClientId()).
So it seems that UIData and/or UIComponentBase are
implemented differently by IBM (or Sun) that doesn't
return the expected client id.
One way to work around this, I think, is to add an
override method getClientId directly to HtmlColumns
(basically, just copy the getClientId method from
MyFaces' UIData to HtmlColumns).

sortCommandHeader does not work with JSF RI
Posted by THIEN PHAM <ph...@yahoo.com>.
<t:sortCommandHeader> in Tomahawk 1.1.3 doesn't work
with JSF RI, i.e. clicking on the column header
doesn't result in the column data to be sorted. I
don't know if this is a MyFaces or JSF RI problem, but
in comparing with the same webapp that uses MyFaces
core, I noticed the followings:
- When using MyFaces core, each of the column header
is (correctly, I guess) generated as an HTML anchor
link with a sequential id like:
user_form:list_table:columns:0:_idJsp59
user_form:list_table:columns:1:_idJsp59
user_form:list_table:columns:2:_idJsp59
..etc..
- When using JSF RI, all the column headers have the
same id:
user_form:list_table:columns:_idJsp59
Notice the column number is missing from the id. That
seems to explain why when I clicked on the second
column header, the arrow always shows up with the last
column header. Is this something that can be corrected
in MyFaces? Thanks.

I have done some looking into this problem as well. It appears the
Websphere DefaultExtensionProcessor is failing the request even though the
Myfaces filter has handled the request and and short circuited the filter
chain. has anyone entered a ticket with Websphere to look at this? I've
created a tomahawk issue to help track this problem:
TOMAHAWK-663

I see, that kind of explains. However, the javascript is suppose to be fetched
by MyFacesExtensionsFilter. From your stacktrace, I wonder why the myfaces
filter is not invoked to fetch the resource.... it shouldn't be handled by
websphere here.

Hi "phtan",
Your problem with the calendar might be similar to my
<t:popup> problem. There is a bug in WAS 6.1 that
fails to locate javascript referenced by MyFaces. In
my case, the server log exception under the ffdc
folder shows something like this:
Exception = java.io.FileNotFoundException
Source =
com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.extension.DefaultExtensionProcessor.handleRequest
probeid = 573
Stack Dump = java.io.FileNotFoundException:

The problem is still not fixed with FixPack1, but IBM
is working on it.

There are actually a few places in Websphere 6.1 to set class loader order,
which can be quite confusing. The one which we tried and works (except the
calendar problem mentioned above) is via this path:
Enterprise Applications > <war-file name> > Manage Modules >
Change class loader to "Classes loaded with application class loader first”. If
you are seeing those PARENT_LAST options, that is not the right page.

With WAS 6.1, it's no longer possible to remove
JSF-related jar files to bypass the JSF RI. All those
jars are now an integral part of WAS's web container.
I've raised the issue with IBM. They suggest to remove
myfaces-api.jar and myfaces-impl.jar out of the web
app. Instead, the user should create a shared lib that
contains paths to myfaces jars, and then have the
webapp references to that shared lib. It helps to
resolve some issues, but I'm still having a lot of
other problems with it. It still uses LifeCycle,
Application, etc from JSF RI. I haven't tried
classloader's PARENTLAST option yet. It's something I
want to try next.
