[jira] [Commented] (IMAGING-57) Support for WEBP Image Format

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IMAGING-57?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17124467#comment-17124467 ]

Bruno P. Kinoshita commented on IMAGING-57:
-------------------------------------------

There was some user interest on GitHub too: [https://github.com/apache/commons-imaging/pull/50]

And there is an increase in the number of webp images I've downloaded from reddit, so might have a go at it soon. Probably after the next alpha2 release, and **maybe** before the 1.0 final release.

> A new image format designed by Google is emerging, it uses lossy compression. It is used to reduce image file size to speed up web page loading and its principal purpose is to supersede JPEG as the primary format for photographs on the web. It would be really good to add this new image format :-)
