This issue is also affecting other areas such as Tools: Word Count, and opening
and closing documents. I have to force quit the application, then reopen it to
open another document.

Same problem. Tries to restart my computer, then turned it off completely for
several minutes. The dialogue box is still there and I can't shut down Open
Office or force quite the application

I had the same issue with the dialogue box regarding RESTORE WINDOWS. I have a
Mac OS X 10.7.5 and tried several options. Then I went up to the apple and
chose 'force quit'. It brought up a box with all open applications. I clicked
on Open Office.org and it quit and the dialogue box disappeared. Now hopefully
when I reopen it will work correctly. Hope this helps someone/anyone.

--- Comment #3 from John Lawrence <jl...@telus.net> ---
I am using MAC OSX 10.8.2 with version 3.4.1 of OpenOffice. I am having the
same problem, affecting not only my ability to open any new windows, save as,
and quit the OpenOffice program without using the Force Quit option (Quit is
grayed out in the File menu). I have attempted the following with no success:

1. Close then re-enter the OpenOffice program
2. Delete then reinstall the OpenOffice program from the latest stable
version.
3. Used MacKeeper to remove "all" traces of the OpenOffice program and
associated files then reinstalled the program from scratch.
4. Attempted to use Time Machine backup from several days ago but it would not
allow me to change/alter the "Application folder" where OpenOffice resides.

Any assistance that you can provide would be appreciated.

Duplicated.
See
http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues

On recent versions of Mac OS X it might happen, especially after a "Force
quit", that the following error message appears: "Restore Windows - The
application OpenOffice.org was forced to quit while trying to restore its
windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?". If you cannot get
rid of it: Option-click the "Go" menu; choose "Library" from the menu to open
the folder in the Finder; click on the folder "Saved Application State"; delete
the file "org.openoffice.script.savedState". See bug 119006 for more
information.
