[PATCH] small news update patch for cocoon gettogether

Funny - I'm able to commit this to the live website, if I would like to,
but not to the Cocoon CVS repository ;-)

so if you please...? Atached.

Regards,

</Steven>

He can't reflect the modifications. Cocoon committers have to get it
into the live site cvs first.

It's not difficult, really, just tedious. You need to:
- sync head and release regarding docs (at least I do)
- perform a build of the release branch to generate html docs
- check out the latest version of live site cvs (any commiter can do
this)
at /home/cvs/xml-site/targets/cocoon
- sync html docs between your build and live site cvs (I use diff.) Not
all docs in the live site cvs are in the release build. We have a few
redirects, for example, based on old docs that were moved. This part is
the most tedious.
- check internal links since you are merging html docs (I use a
third-party tool)
- commit any changes to the live site cvs. This can be a rather
time-consuming step, for example, when updating javadocs.
- email Carsten, Vadim, or me, (or Steven?) to update the web site
(which simply is a checked-out version of the live site cvs). You need
privileges on xml.apache.org to update the live site from the cvs.

Sorry that it took so long Steven. This thread went off
to discuss whether it should be "news" or "events".
We can always change it later, but i thought it important
to get it into CVS now, so it is in news.xml (slightly
different to your patch).

As to the website, please reflect the modifications
yourself. Sorry, i do not know how to update the website.
Another thing that i must learn.

Wishing you all the best for the event, from a jealous
antipodean. By the way, it is excellent to see the pics
and bios of various Cocooners at

Thank you.

No, not true, at least since I've been a committer. I believe I made
three to four updates in between 2.0.2 and 2.0.3, and this was well into
the 2.0.3-dev activity. It depends on the how many new doc patches are
committed and the time sensitivity of some content. For example, I made
an update when Carsten and Matt's book came out. FYI -- I don't always
announce the updates.

not at all

if you want me to submit an events page instead, I'll be happy to do so

but then of course, this page should be regularly published on the
website - and I thought the website (xml-site module) only gets
republished once a release has been made?

yup

This is probably a *minor* point, but is this content better suited on
an events page? Seems to me that announcements, such as the printing of
Carsten and Matt's book, remains newsworthy long after the initial
publication date. An event, such as a get-together, isn't so newsworthy
once it's over.

Am I nitpicking?

Such an events page could also have a link to the CocoonWiki events page.
