Latest version is 1.3 - please confirm

Hi,

I am evaluating possible cache solution (JCS, EHCache, JMemcache etc.) and
was wondering about the development activity for JCS.

The last version released from JCS is 1.3 on 2007-06-05. From the forum it
seems there are some checkin to the repository but no release in long long
time. I would appreciate if someone please inform me the development
activity for JCS for future version and how much active is this forum.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, It's we are stuck in the past. We are stuck with JDK 1.3, even though
JDK 1.5 is now almost 5 years old.

But Aaron does 90% of the development, and his apps are stuck with 1.3, so
for the moment there is no push to move to something more modern.

Cheers,
Al

New Atlanta servlet

Posted by dl...@lakelandcc.edu.
Is anyone familiar with the servlet New Atlanta?

Its been working for me for years, a vendor has released a new update to
their software and now I can't get it to work with the new software.

When I try to go to the web page it gives me the below error:

Error. The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it
from fulfilling the request.

Hi Al,

Thanks for replying and providing the link to release candidate. I look
forward to official release announcement.

I have tried version 1.3 as well as rc version, do you have any idea when
the code will move to Java's concurrent classes. It seems rc is still
dependent on concurrent classes provided here
http://gee.cs.oswego.edu/dl/classes/EDU/oswego/cs/dl/util/concurrent/intro.html

If I don't build and point to concurrent.jar from above location I get
runtime error

xception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
EDU/oswego/cs/dl/util/concurrent/Channel
	at
org.apache.jcs.engine.control.CompositeCacheManager.configure(CompositeCacheManager.java:316)
	at
org.apache.jcs.engine.control.CompositeCacheManager.configure(CompositeCacheManager.java:272)
	at
org.apache.jcs.engine.control.CompositeCacheManager.configure(CompositeCacheManager.java:261)
	at
org.apache.jcs.engine.control.CompositeCacheManager.configure(CompositeCacheManager.java:211)
	at
org.apache.jcs.engine.control.CompositeCacheManager.getInstance(CompositeCacheManager.java:127)
	at org.apache.jcs.JCS.ensureCacheManager(JCS.java:96)
	at org.apache.jcs.JCS.getInstance(JCS.java:80)

But when I went there to check the usage of Channel class I could not find
in CompositeCacheManager.java (I got the latest trunk from
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/jakarta/jcs/trunk/ )

I am trying to figure out how much code changes needs to be done to make JCS
free of any external dependency and try to utilize the classes provided by
java 1.5 onwards.

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes it is time for a release.

Take the latest CVS release. It's stable even though it has not been
officially released.
