RE: Weblogic and Cactus
Before I put in my question, let me thank you guyz for
a wonderful product.
Now for the question.. Im testing my EJBs running on
Weblogic using Cactus.
When I have WEblogic running and I start my ant
process to test the code, i get an exception
sometimes....
[junit] Testcase: testLoadDocument took 0.57 sec
[junit] Caused an ERROR
[junit] Not a valid response
[junit]
org.apache.cactus.util.ChainedRuntimeException: Not a
valid response
But again, sometimes it works and it gives me the test
results. Im not sure why is this happening.
On the other hand, if I dont have weblogic running and
let hte TEst Ant Script start my Weblogic server, it
works fine all the time.. I saw in a message in this
group that it was a bug in some earlier release. Is
this the case?
Has anyone experienced the same? Im using WL 6.1 with
Cactus 1.3
TIA
Raj

No, I create the war file, copy it to its proper location then I start WL.

Hi,
Thanks for this fine debugging ! Yes, a "not a valid response" error
means that the Cactus client could connect to the server but the server
returned an invalid response. I've just committed some code in CVS
(Cactus 1.4dev) in order to try to give a better error message.
However, I don't know how to try this on my computer ... Do you think
you could try it ? (You can either build the Cactus jar from the source
or get it from http://gump.covalent.net/jars/2002-05-01 . It will be
there in a few hours when Gump kicks in).
Thanks
-Vincent

Re: Weblogic and Cactus
Posted by "Rajagopal. V" <ra...@yahoo.com>.
I debugged it a bit printing out the stack traces from
the Cactus and WEblogic sides and mostly what i was
getting was a
Response Code of 500 from the First
Call(Cactus_Service=CALL_TEST) to the Server which
leads to a 500 on the Second
CAll(Cactus_Service=GET_RESULTS)...
This is because WEblogic was throwing a
IllegalStateException : Zip file closed as i was
updating the war file everytime. My Ant was like
<war warfile="${target.test.dir}/${war.name}.war"
webxml="${conf.dir}/web.xml"
update="yes">
Since i was updating the war file, WL tries to load it
partially and thats why i get a IllegalStateException.
Now that I make the "update=no" it overwrites the war
file... This made the change and now it works fine for
me.. I ran the scripts over and over again (putting it
in a loop) and it worked fine all the time.
So Things to look for if u get a
"Chainedresponseexception".
see if ur war file is getting updated and the servlet
container is trying to load it while processing the
Cactus Requests...
Laurent, Is this the case with u too?

I've experienced the same. I don't know how to explain it (not that I've
digged for an answer, mind you).

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty
recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but
the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream
with open eyes, to make it possible.
