DO NOT REPLY [Bug 48291] New: mod_substitute loops

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=48291

           Summary: mod_substitute loops
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.3-HEAD
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows Vista
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: P2
         Component: mod_substitute
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: marc.stern@approach.be

The following command "s/123/abc123def/" on the input "*123*" gives
"abcabc123defdef"
Substitution is made twice (why not 3 times, 4 times,... ?).
Flatening the bucket or not does not changing anything.

I see this as a bug.
If this is considered as a feature, it should definitely be documented.
And a flag to replace only once would be a great feature.

In case the above case is not considered as a bug, the following behaviour will
be much more difficult to explain:
   s/123/abcxxxdef/
   s/xxx/123/
When applied on "*123*", becomes "abcabc123defdef".
By issuing two successive commands, I cannot understand why the first one is
executed again after the second one ?!?

Do you mean that, in reverse proxy mode, it triggers the filter twice.
That would be a problem.
I'll try to reproduce that.

I think that there is some conflict with mod_rewrite and P rule in RewriteCond.
I had such rule and the replacement was doubled.

This seems to be solved in 2.2.14 version.

I cannot reproduce this with mod_substitute in httpd 2.2.11 or 2.2.14 on
Windows.

Does it require the *123* input to be in a specific position within the line or
within the file? Can you provide an html file which shows this behavior?

Note that the default is to flatten the bucket since httpd 2.2.9. The "q" flag
can be used to override this default.

I also come assross the problem which committed by Marc Stern. My OS is linux.
I also tried the version 2.2.15 of apache, the problem still exist.
My substitute rule is:
    Substitute "s|OA_HTML|erptest/OA_HTML|ni"
then the result is in html pages:

'http://erp.aisino.com.cn:8000/erptest/erptest/OA_HTML/US/ICXINDEX_PROD_erp.htm';

the original link is:
    'http://erp.aisino.com.cn:8000/OA_HTML/US/ICXINDEX_PROD_erp.htm';

The Substitution is made twice.
