introduction and proposal for media blogging support

Hi all,
I am Ganesh Mathrubootham. I joined this group recently and would like to
introduce myself first.

Me, Ganesh Mathrubootham and my friend, Tanuja Varkanthe are graduate
students at San Jose State University (SJSU).    We have been selected to
work on media blogging enhancements for roller with Dave Johnson as our
mentor.  As part of this work, Tanuja and I will be satisfying the academic
requirements for our masters project at SJSU.

To start with, we created a proposal for media blogging support in Wiki
section per Dave's advice.  We wanted to share it with you for your valuable

Hi Ganesh and Tanuja. Thanks for introducing yourselves and for
sending in your ICLAs so that you can contribute code to Roller. I'm
really looking forward to working with you on this project.

That's a great start. I agree with the overall requirements and feel
that Roller should have much better built-in support for file uploads,
including images in posts and podcasting. This stuff is basic blogging
functionality that builds on features are already present in Roller,
used heavily and in need of some serious user-experience improvements.

I would rewrite the high-level requirements summary like this:

* Sortable, searchable, hierarchical and tabular display of uploaded files
* Auto-generate and display small thumbnails for all images
* Ability to specify metadata for uploads including title, filename,
content-type and tags
** Support for new metadata in Roller's AtomPub implementation
* Support for media blogging features from both Weblog Entry Editor
and FIle Uploads page:
** Ability to add to any entry an enclosure (i.e. a podcast)
** Ability to add to any entry images with optional title and thumbnail
* Support for external media files (e.g. YouTube, Flickr, etc.)

Of course, we can adjust that as we scope things out, but I think
that's a good high-level summary of what we should be proposing.
