[jira] Updated: (MAHOUT-345) integrate Mahout with Drupal/PHP
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MAHOUT-345?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel ]
Daniel Xiaodan Zhou updated MAHOUT-345:
---------------------------------------
Summary: integrate Mahout with Drupal/PHP (was: [GSOC] integrate Mahout with Drupal/PHP)
Labels: integration drupal (was: gsoc)
Even though this project does not become a GSOC project, I'd still like to work on it. So I'm reopening it.
Right now I'm evaluating whether to run Mahout locally on a Drupal site, or remotely through WebServices/REST. Does Mahout support WebServeices/REST or any other RPC interface?
Also, since the Drupal users might have special requirements for the recommender system (eg, adding features for Drupal nodes, etc), I might need to work closely with some Mahout developers to check in some patches/features designed for that purpose. Is that easy to do it here?
Thanks!
daniel

> Drupal is a very popular open source web content management system. It's been widely used in e-commerce sites, media sites, etc. This is a list of famous site using Drupal: http://socialcmsbuzz.com/45-drupal-sites-which-you-may-not-have-known-were-drupal-based-24092008/
> Integrate Mahout with Drupal would greatly increase the impact of Mahout in web systems: any Drupal website can easily use Mahout to make content recommendations or cluster contents.
> I'm a PhD student at University of Michigan, with a research focus on recommender systems. Last year I participated GSOC 2009 with Drupal.org, and developed a recommender system for Drupal. But that module was not as sophisticated as Mahout. And I think it would be nice just to integrate Mahout into Drupal rather than developing a separate Mahout-like module for Drupal.
> Any comments? I can provide more information if people here are interested. Thanks.
