[jira] [Commented] (INFRA-12415) Mailing lists not receiving email

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-12415?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=15418556#comment-15418556 ]

Sidney Markowitz commented on INFRA-12415:
------------------------------------------

This might be a clue (or might not). Daniel Gruno successfully sent an email to private@ from his apache email address humbedooh. When I saw that I tried sending another email to the list. It did not appear.

I then tried ending an email to Daniel at his apache.org address. That bounced with the following explanation in the bounce mail (Daniel's private email address redacted):

<daniel@****.**>:
91.198.169.9 failed after I sent the message.
Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 SPF check failed, please see http://www.openspf.org/Why?id=sidney@sidney.com&ip=140.211.11.3&receiver=mx4.public.one.com (b2229b34-6068-11e6-a725-b82a72d0454d)

Following the link gives this reason why the mail I sent was rejected after hermes.apache.org forwarded it in a way that breaks SPF.

mx4.public.one.com rejected a message that claimed an envelope sender address of sidney@sidney.com.
mx4.public.one.com received a message from hermes.apache.org (140.211.11.3) that claimed an envelope sender address of sidney@sidney.com.

However, the domain sidney.com has declared using SPF that it does not send mail through hermes.apache.org (140.211.11.3). That is why the message was rejected.

It is true that my sidney.com domain does not include hermes.apache.org in the SPF record. But it should not have to just for me to be able to send to apache.org email addresses.

Could there be something similar happening when I send to private@spamassassin.apache.org?

> Key: INFRA-12415
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-12415
> Project: Infrastructure
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: Mailing Lists
> Environment: At least private@spamassassin and dev@spamassassin
> Reporter: Sidney Markowitz
> Priority: Blocker
>
> Mail sent to private@spamassassin.apache.org and dev@spamassassin.apache.org is not getting through.
> The emails do not end up in my inbox and also do not show in lists.apache.org archives.
> The last one I sent that got through ok was to private@ sent from sidney@sidney.com Fri, 12 Aug 2016 12:26:28 +1200 (NZST)
> I sent another one from and to the same addresses at 13:38:27 then to dev@ at 13:48:42. Then again to private@ at 16:24:01 and dev@ at 16:24:55
> Then tried sending from my sidney@apache.org (which sends through the apache.org smtp server) address to private@ at 17:16:35 and that still did not show up in my inbox nor lists.apache.org
> I then tried sending from an unsubscribed address to private@. My moderator address did receive a moderation email for it. However when I rejected the message the rejection notice did not show up in my sending address inbox.
