True, They can co-exits, But you question little confused in a way

1) If you want both apache and zope as standard alone servers you can
run both on different ports.

2) If you want apache to be front end and use the apache to serve the
zope pages. You need to configure your apache to be proxy to the zope
server. There are few ways to do this
search on the web. 

  1) one way to do it rewrite the url and forwad the request to zope server
  2) proxy pass configuration in apache
