Wow, I see what you mean.  I finally figured it out.  When I built my 
neon package it AUTOMATICALLY selected libxml stuff.  I've now rebuilt it 
with the --with-expat option and it now correctly does not depend on
libxml.  This auto-config business can get a bit tricky.  I didn't expect 
it to be able to configure itself more than one way.  Two packages 
that provide the same functionality on the same machine?
Sounds like the software is getting TOO smart. :-)
