I agree that maybe "1.8" would sound like too much, but "1.7.1" would
definitely worth it, given that a few relevant bugs were fixed (most
notably with SMIL, which is now also becoming widespread in desktop
browsers). :-)

Yes, Batik seems to be in need of a few spare hours in a more regular
fashion. ;-)
There are already a bunch of patches in the revision/commit queue
which, IMHO, would definitely deserve being integrated. Unfortunately,
a few are held in the review/commit queue, while another few of the
most notable/valuable are seem held due to licensing issues (a.k.a.
signing the ICLA) which feels a bit sad... :-(

 Helder

Hi All,

Just to comment on this. I'm not sure enough progress has been made to
really justify a new version, and in any case I don't have the time to
make a
release.

If a comitter had the time to run through all the bug reports with
patches
and fix a few of the higher "priority" bugs it might be worth while but I
don't think
any of the current comitters has the time to do that.

I (also) can't speak for the Batik development team/project drivers,
although I have also already pointed out that the few issues already
solved since the 1.7 release deserved a new release. Also, there's a
number of issues with patches in the bug tracker [1] (search for the
"[PATCH]" prefix) which one can apply locally when creating a "stable"
version code repository. In the meantime, you may also use the nightly
builds [2]. :-)

Guess you forgot to provide the link [2] to them... ;-)

Hope this helps,
 Helder

As I'm not involved with the development of Batik I can not give you an
answer to you question...but the nightly snapshots [1] work quite well
;-) I.e. development did not stop.
