[users@httpd] undefined symbols for apache installed in OS X
Does anyone know how fix this error. When I try to start the apache server, I get this undefined symbols.
apachectl start
dyld: /usr/sbin/httpd Undefined symbols:
_apple_hfs_module
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started
Thanks,
Gene

Didn't I pretty much say that? And did you read my e-mail
<insert>
I have been using Apache since the OS X beta and always compile it
from the source.

Any questions?

Don't get me wrong, the Apple-provided Apache works and all right out
of the box, but it just isn't suitable for the enterprising individual
who wants to expand on it. I have always compiled from source and I
believe that it is the best way to ensure that everything is set up
correctly.
The Developer Tools need not be installed in order to run Apache,
however, to compile from source, they definitely are needed. By
default, Apache is set up to run without the Developer Tools and with
most common options enabled, but I always trash that binary and
re-compile with the latest source.
Anyone else run Apache on OS X or am I the only Apple-techie on the
list? ;-)

I second that.... don't use the Apple provided apache. I have been
using Apache since the OS X beta and always compile it from the source.
Download Apache 2.0.4x source code and compile it. The other question
is have you downloaded and install the developer tools. That could be
the problem also.

I use Apache on OS X.2.5 and have been ever since OS X came out with no
problem. You might want to try downloading the most recent release of
Apache and compiling from source instead of running the default Apache
build provided by Apple although I have had no problem with running the
Apple-provided Apache. It would be helpful too if you included a few
lines from your error_log.
If you need any more help with Apache and OS X, please feel free to
contact me as I've been using Apache on OS X since 2000 (OS X Public
Beta).
I would also be interested to hear if anyone else on the list is using
OS X in combination with Apache and any tweaks that may have been
implemented.
