[DISCUSS] Event Announcements?

Hi all,

We have a lot of events coming up like meetups or conferences where
community members will be speaking about Apache CloudStack. (woot!)

My question for folks on this list: Do you want organizers to send
announcements of these events to the users@ mailing list? Do you want
reminders? (e.g., an announcement when the event is scheduled, and maybe
a reminder when it's 2 weeks out, or something like that?)

Trying to find the balance between notifying people so they can attend
events if they'd like, without it feeling like the users@ list is too
noisy.

Thoughts, comments, flames, etc.?

Best,

jzb

I don't have much additional information past what is in that email thread.
Mark is leading the effort for this event, and I am sure he'll publish
info as soon as it is available.

We've done some smaller geo-focused events in the past, and we've had
one 'large' conference in Vegas last December.
IIRC the next one is June 25-27th in Silicon Valley [1]

Kelly (and others) - I haven't seen any conferences for anything like the
openstack summit, but specifically focused on cloudstack. Is there anything
on the horizon for anything like that?

Marketing is for discussing promotion of CloudStack. It's not for
announcements. I wouldn't recommend users subscribe to marketing unless
they want to be involved in planning release announcements, etc.

If you're interested in learning about things we're doing:

* Please follow the Apache CloudStack blog:
(http://blogs.apache.org/cloudstack/) We post all major announcements
there + the weekly news and perhaps other original content.

* Please follow the Apache CloudStack Twitter account (@cloudstack)

* Visit the Lanyrd events page:
http://lanyrd.com/topics/apache-cloudstack/

And we're all ears for any suggestions on how to better get the word out
about events, etc.

Best,

In progress, but that will be *only* for release announcements and major
project announcements... not for events.

Have we ever thought of having an announce@ like Apache does?

Thanks,

Absolutely.

OK - I haven't gotten a flood of "please don't send event announcements
to users" replies, so I'm going to start making sure we post event
announcements to this list without getting obnoxious about it.

Thanks all - hope that we can find a nice happy medium where everybody
can be aware of what's going on in the community without excess email.
Thanks!

The most recent weekly news with a list of events in the update can be be
found here:
https://blogs.apache.org/cloudstack/entry/apache_cloudstack_weekly_news_181

The "news" tag ( https://blogs.apache.org/cloudstack/tags/news) generally
lists updated entries but noticed that the most recent, above, is missing
from the list.

I would like to see them. I also wouldn't mind a separate list for such things.

It is pretty annoying to find out about something too late…
