I also meet the problem, I write a Class BookStripper extends PDFTextStripper
the BookStripper must be put in package "org.apache.pdfbox.util" in order to override the following method
the startPage(...),endPage(...),handleLineSeparation(...),isParagraphSeparation(...),processOperator(...),writePage(...). 
very uncomfortable.
