svn update error

Hello,

I am using Subversion 0.14.0 on win32 and I received the error below.
It perhaps could be caused by a bug.

D:dev\svn.exe update rapidsvn

svn_error: #21097 : <RA layer request failed>
  PROPFIND of
/repos/svn/!svn/ver/2766/clients/rapidsvn/trunk/src/res/
bitmaps/versioned_folder.ico: Could not parse response status line.

Brent

/me wonders if that svn:mime-type value is stored as:

OK, so both the checkout (GET) and update (PROPFIND) bugs are due to
bogus newlines attached to svn:mime-type values. I just filed issue
#828 on this, as a P1.

Karl and I are writing these checks right now.

Mike is manually fixing all the bogus svn:mime-type values via an
ra_local working copy.

I think we found the other bogusness too, on the PROPFIND:

GET /repos/svn/!svn/ver/2766/clients/rapidsvn/trunk/src/res/bitmaps/versioned_folder.ico HTTP/1.1^M
User-Agent: neon/0.21.2 SVN/0.14.0 (dev build)^M
Keep-Alive: ^M
Connection: TE, Keep-Alive^M
TE: trailers^M
Host: svn.collab.net^M
^M
HTTP/1.1 200 OK^M
Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 15:00:11 GMT^M
Server: Apache/2.0.40-dev (Unix) DAV/2 SVN/0.14.0 (dev build)^M
ETag: "2766//clients/rapidsvn/trunk/src/res/bitmaps/versioned_folder.ico"^M
Accept-Ranges: bytes^M
Content-Length: 894^M
Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100^M
Connection: Keep-Alive^M
Content-Type: "image/x-icon"
^M
^M
[intended beginning of response body...]

(Note, the ethereal output has *real* ^M's, not these phony ones
above.)

Notice that the mime-type property doesn't have the ^M on the same
line, like one normally sees at the bottom of a header-block, (or at
the end of any normal header line). I suspect that somebody edited
this property with 'svn propedit' and snuck an extra newline (LF) in
the propvalue. And now, of course, this regresses to the previous
problem. An extra byte is being counted as part of the body when it
shouldn't be.

I think we need to be *very* careful setting the svn:mime-type
property, since it has the ability to effect the validity of our
network protocol. Let's talk about solutions. Karl has ideas:

1. The client should validate the propval at set-time.

Also,

2. The server should validate the propval before throwing it into the
    headers.

Our validation simply needs to check that the value is "header safe".

That's a blank line?? Ugh.

Try updating to HEAD of httpd-2.0/APR as Brian Pane has rewritten
the table API and you might have caught the tree in a broken
state. (I think it was broken from July 20-July 27th.)

http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs.cgi/apr/tables/apr_tables.c

Looking at revision 1.40. svn.collab.net reports it was setup on
the 23rd.

FOUND some bogusness! I'm pretty sure this is the problem.

Lookee here at this ethereal trace on the failed "GET" that we're
seeing when you try to checkout the head of /clients/rapidsvn:

GET /repos/svn/!svn/bc/2768/clients/rapidsvn/trunk/src/res/bitmaps/folder.ico HTTP/1.1
User-Agent: neon/0.21.2 SVN/0.14.0 (dev build)
Connection: TE
TE: trailers
Host: svn.collab.net

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 16:06:41 GMT
Server: Apache/2.0.40-dev (Unix) DAV/2 SVN/0.14.0 (dev build)
ETag: "2766//clients/rapidsvn/trunk/src/res/bitmaps/folder.ico"
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Content-Length: 894
Content-Type: "image/x-icon"

X-Pad: avoid browser bug
[...bunch of binary data...]

GET /repos/svn/!svn/bc/2768/clients/rapidsvn/trunk/src/res/bitmaps/revert.bmp HTTP/1.1
User-Agent: neon/0.21.2 SVN/0.14.0 (dev build)
Connection: TE
TE: trailers
Host: svn.collab.net

This is the GET request just *before* the GET that fails. There's an
extra "X-Pad:" header being inserted by the server up there, and it's
being interpreted as part of the 894 bytes of binary body data. So
the client then sends another GET request, and then sucks up some
extra binary data from the stream, thinking it's part of the header
response.

Ah actually I'm getting this 'Could not parse response status line', but
only on checkout, not when I do a svn up.

I'm not sure which part of the log are relevant. I see a weird status line, like this one:

Sending headers (#19)

But the error is for another file that comes a bit later:

I can send the whole log to someone who wants it, it's about 600kb?

That's a log of a different error though, not a "could not parse

This is reproducible with HEAD in Unixland, too. Here's the weird
thing, though: if I run `svn up' in gdb, and take my time stepping
through the code, I *don't* get the error. However, if I run `svn up'
in gdb with no breakpoints, or if I run it outside of gdb, I get the
error.

I would like discussions at least for now to be posted here. I don't
know how anyone else feels about that. However, I have created a
separate RapidSVN mailing list as well that everyone interested can
join as well:

Right now you'll have to build it for yourself. It comes with a VC++
6 project file which might be of some help. Eventually I might
include a make file for Borland free or MinGW.

Very soon I plan on making an alpha release build of RapidSVN that
includes a win32 and Linux installer. If you can't build it I
uploaded a win32 binary here:
http://rapidsvn.sourceforge.net/rapidsvn-alpha.zip

Maybe I should include it in the windows disto, anyone?
Have anyone made Windows binaries or can I do it by myself? I have VC 5,
borland free compiler and MinGW

RapidSVN project launched

Posted by "Brent R. Matzelle" <bm...@yahoo.com>.
Hello Everyone,

I am happy to inform you that the RapidSVN project has been launched.
For those of you who have not yet heard this project was imported
into the svn/clients repository last week. The project's goal is to
create a cross-platform GUI front-end for the Subversion written in
C++ using the wxWindows framework.

A new project page has been created on Sourceforge that contains more
information including a screenshot of the program in action. You can
visit it here:

http://rapidsvn.sourceforge.net/

All contributions to the project are welcome. Since it is new there
is plenty to do so come one, come all.

Warm regards,

Brent
