[users@httpd] apache help
hi
I am getting problem starting apache 2.0.47 on windows 98SE
system.
i have read the documentation but to no avail.
It gives me this error on startup:
C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\bin>apache.exe
[Mon Aug 25 19:07:02 2003] [crit] (OS 10038)Socket operation on
non-socket: make
_sock: for address 127.0.0.1:80, apr_socket_opt_set:
(SO_KEEPALIVE)
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs
**this is worst that there is no error log
I generally use outpost firewall but it is not running even when
there is no firewall.
what does (OS 10038 means). I think it would have been helpfull if
it was explained somewhere.
please help

Hi,
The error message says what the error means: it can't find a port to listen
on in your config file, so it can't make a socket to listen on. Please
check your httpd.conf file and search for "Listen" within the file, and make
sure you are listening on port 80 at the very least.
On win2k with Apache 2.0.47, I went and commented out my Listen directive
(there was only one in the default config), and got a similar error message:
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs
Hope this helps.
Leif

Your problem is most likely that you are running PWS or something as well
(could be kazaa), on port 80... Apache2 want to have alone rights on it's
port (Apache 1 seems to work anyway, overriding current or just waiting for
better days)...
