[~TsingJyujing] Hi Yifan, I received your private email, but I think here is the better place to have communication. 

let me answer your questions here:

First of all, you mentioned that Phoenix is a huge project, and it is very difficult to into the loop if you are a newbie. I do agree with your point, especially I'm new to the Phoenix community too. I feel we should have better guidance for newbies, why don't we create another Jira about new develop guide and include PMCs into the loop. 

Secondly, I don't have any 'hidden' design docs. Maybe u should ask this question on the Phoenix mail list.

Lastly, you should either fix this issue on the master and/or 4.x-HBase1.4 branch. I would suggest u reproduce the problem first, and then we can work together to solve this issue. Without reproducing the problem, you can't add tests and debug locally.
