[jira] [Created] (RAVE-798) Bad usability of "settings" bar on iPhone

Matthias Niederhausen created RAVE-798:
------------------------------------------

Summary: Bad usability of "settings" bar on iPhone
                 Key: RAVE-798
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/RAVE-798
             Project: Rave
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: rave-portal
    Affects Versions: 0.15
         Environment: iPad 3, Safari
            Reporter: Matthias Niederhausen
            Priority: Minor

The settings bar for mobile devices exhibits some usability flaws:
It contains different entries per page (add widget, back to workspace, user profile), but this is only visible to the user when he expands the bar. New users will be confused by this behaviour.
One possible solution would be to use simple icons. Upon expanding the bar, additional text labels could then explain the function for new users.
This would somewhat resemble the application bar on windows phone 7: http://www.abhisheksur.com/2011/04/application-bar-for-your-windows-phone.html (nevermind the technical details).
