ANT does not find the compiler

Summary: ANT does not find the compiler
           Product: Ant
           Version: 1.6Alpha (nightly)
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Critical
          Priority: Other
         Component: Other
        AssignedTo: ant-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: tilman.giese@gmx.de

I am using Sun's JDK 1.4.0 and I compiled ANT for myself. I set the ANT_HOME
environment variable and ANT worked. Then I copied ant.jar into the extension
dir of the JDK (jre/lib/ext) and now ANT says that it could not find
com.sun.tools.javac.Main. I did not change anything else, I only copied the JAR
archive into the extension directory.
