ISAPI Redirector issue | Building |

Hi Team,

For the IIS tomcat configuration, i need to customize the 503 error message
which is present in *'isapi_redirect.dll'*.

*DLL file which i am using :*

http://apache.thelorne.com/tomcat/tomcat-connectors/jk/binaries/win32/jk-1.2.30/isapi_redirect-1.2.30.dll

*DLL source code :*

http://apache.thelorne.com/tomcat/tomcat-connectors/jk/source/jk-1.2.30/tomcat-connectors-1.2.30-src.zip

I modifed the source code of 'isapi_redirect.dll' and re-build using Visual
studio 2008 ( release mode ) on windows xp machine.

while compiling and building there were just fine. no error or warning were
displayed.

but i put the same .dll file in IIS, i realized that dll was not working
and blank page is being displayed.

I am stuck in this for couple of days.

could you please help in resolving this issue.

Warm Regards,
Vinay.

Hmm, I'm somewhat out of ideas. Never built on VS 2008. Maybe Mladen or
Tim have an idea.

Hi dev team,

My all build related issues have been resolved. !

the root cause of issue was like,i forgot to install the windows 2003 server
platform sdk,
After installing and configuring the SDK and i compiled the source with
customization every problem got resolved.
I am really thankful to Mladen turk, len.popp ,sebb ,rainer jung. for their
quick response and accurate solution :)

After you install the Server 2003 Platform SDK, here's how to tell Visual
Studio 6 to use the new platform SDK:
- Run VS6.
- Open the View > Options dialog.
- Add the appropriate directories for the Server 2003 Platform SDK.
- Note that you must add include, lib and source directories separately,
using the "Show directories for" dropdown.
- Make sure the new directories are at the top of the list, so they are
searched first.

The procedure for Visual Studio 2008 is similar.

FYI, the compile error messages have to do with items defined in httpext.h,
which are not present in older versions of the Platform SDK.

You will also need the Server 2003r2 platform SDK, and if
building from GUI adjust the include and lib directories
from the SDK to take precedence over the ones from visual studio.

I'm not using GUI for building (ever), so cannot tell you
what exactly to look in 2003, but in 6.0 there was something
like 'options->directories' where you could set up the
the order of include and lib directories.

Hi Team,

According to your instructions , i have created the environment of windows
2003 server standard edition with visual studio 6.0 with sp5..
while Building i am getting 63 errors. I have attached the file which has
all the errors which are shown during the build process.
Kindly let me know the further process to build the same.

This is determined by the cl.exe itself and you cannot
change that at will.

You are not the only one. Try building with static msvcrt
(this is /MT compiler option) like sebb suggested

Hi Team,

How do I link (give a reference to) the MSVCRT library statically? Is the
Source code of MSVCRT library available?
I'm totally confused on this. Please guide me.

Alternatively, it may work if you link the MSVCRT library statically,
rather than as a DLL.
The output DLL will be larger, but it won't have a reference to the
(wrong) MSVCRT DLL.

Use Visual Studio 6sp5 and Windows 2003R2 Platform SDK.
This combination of tools was used for building the
official binaries.

Like said, the produced .dll is probably linked with higher
MSVCRT version (caused by using VS2008) then the one IIS uses.
Now, your .dll injects that higher MSVCRT inside the IIS process,
and everything starts to fall apart.

Re: ISAPI Redirector issue | Building |

Posted by vini mr <vi...@gmail.com>.
Hi Mladen Turk,

As per my knowledge i used the .dll from
http://apache.thelorne.com/tomcat/tomcat-connectors/jk/binaries/win32/jk-1.2.30/isapi_redirect-1.2.30.dll

which is perfectly working fine in my IIS server Version 6.0 and Apache
Tomcat 6.026 with the operating system running on windows server 2003
standard edition with sp2.

as per my requirement i need to modify the 503 error message.

so i took a source file from :

http://apache.thelorne.com/tomcat/tomcat-connectors/jk/source/jk-1.2.30/tomcat-connectors-1.2.30-src.zip

i build the .dll on windows xp 32 bit using Microsoft Visual studio 2008
with complier version 6.0.

build was successfull without warning or error.

now when i use this dll which was build. i am noticing its not working fine
and only blank page is being displayed.

Thanks and Regards,
Vinay

Seems like MSVCRT version issue.
Not sure which version IIS/Win2003 uses but it
is well known that dll's having higher MSVCRT
version then the container application can create problems.

Hi Konstantin Kolinko,

Thanks for your response..

*Evidence *: i have checked *localhost_accesslog.log* in tomcat to see
whether i am getting any request from IIS to tomcat through
isapi_redirector.dll. But i found nothing in the log.

If i replace the isapi_redirector.dll which is provided by tomcat website
itself then i can see the request in log and everything works fine.

1) I wonder, if it is possible to customize error 503 response without
rebuilding the connector.

2) Maybe some DLLs are missing?

Are there any evidenced, that the dll does not work, besides a blank page?

Note, that Tomcat can reply with a blank page if no ROOT application
is configured in it.

3) I think that this question should have been sent to the users@ list.
