large fo files - OutOfMemoryException

I have been testing using fop for generating reports in our system
with following config:

WinNT 4sp6
256 mb ram
Tomcat 3.2.1 standalone
fop 0.17

When running generation on sample fo I generated from examples/table.fo
that I increased to a size of 4.7mb I get a OutOfMemoryException thrown
from org.apache.fop.tools.anttasks.Fop wrappered by an InvocationTarget
Exception.  I watch system resources while it is running and while the
initial physical ram available is around 150mb before running it drops
down to about 80mb and throws the exception at this point, but there is
still 80mb available.  Any ideas what else might be causing this.

I only found references to small files causing memory problems in older
releases on the archive.
