[jira] [Created] (TIKA-4955) tika-bundle-standard: make imports of non-embedded dependencies mandatory
Tim Allison created TIKA-4955:
---------------------------------
Summary: tika-bundle-standard: make imports of non-embedded dependencies mandatory
Key: TIKA-4955
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TIKA-4955
Project: Tika
Issue Type: Task
Reporter: Tim Allison
All our imports are \{{resolution:=optional}}. A user only finds problems at runtime and then with a CNFE. We're asking too much of users.

Proposal:
- Import the packages of every non-embedded dependency used by a default-enabled parser or detector with mandatory
resolution. A missing bundle then fails at resolve time with the package named.
- Set version floors at the versions Tika builds and tests with, not bnd's defaults. For example, bnd currently allows
org.apache.pdfbox [3.0,4) and org.apache.commons.compress [1.28,2).
- Keep resolution:=optional only for dependencies that are genuinely optional at runtime.
- Add a BundleIT check that instantiates every SPI provider listed in the bundle and fails if any provider can't load.
This catches dependencies that are missing from the embed list.
