Two thoughts.  First; it sounds like this could greatly simplify config.nice,
in fact it might just be 

$ . `./apr-2-configure --configuration`

provided that the 'config.nice' style configuration info was sufficient.

Second thought; this won't happen until 1.4 if that is ever released, and more
likely, in 2.0.  So if you would like to offer a patch against trunk that would
be great, otherwise I'm likely to look at this for trunk.  There will be no
more apr-util-2.0, it's all a single library (with loadable modules) so that
will simplify things quite a bit.
