Mostly in the wiki. See for example
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Framework/Article/Tool_Panels_Internals
and you can look around in the wiki to find more.

You will also find several specifications in the form of ODT files. This
is how OpenOffice developers used to work in the past. We've now moved
towards slightly less formal (but still detailed) specifications. A good
example is https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Sidebar_for_Developers and
links at the bottom of that page.

If you, eventually, find the time to write us back when your research is
complete and share the results, we will appreciate that, since this
happens very rarely.

Regards,
   Andrea.
