[jira] [Commented] (ACCUMULO-1128) Throttle major compaction

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ACCUMULO-1128?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13589592#comment-13589592 ]

Keith Turner commented on ACCUMULO-1128:
----------------------------------------

I suggested using an iterator to accomplish this on the dev mailing list. [~denistmp] made the following observation about this strategy on the mailing list.

Although this approach can help in my case, it may be tricky to use it
in other cases, because (as far as I understood), with iterator one
can throttle the uncompressed data and actual throttling of the hard
disk operations would depend on the data compressibility in the tablet
being compacted and can vary widely.

> Implement a posibility to throttle hard disk operations during major compaction to avoid performance degradation.
> Similar to Cassandra's setting 'compaction_throughput_mb_per_sec'
