Question about moving mailinglists

Hi,

Avalon did move the mailinglists from jakarta.apache.org
to avalon.apache.org. We now want to do the same for cocoon.

I guess renaming is not a big deal, but what has to be done
with respect to mail archives? Can anyone give a me a pointer?

Thanks

Carsten

nope.

OTOH, we're also archived elsewhere, so a little gap is not absolutely
terrible.

Hello Noel and All!

NJB> FWIW, the Avalon archives are indexing again as of last week.
Great! It was dreadfull to have no fresh archives.

Do I guess it right that this will affect only the messages
archived _after_ the gap?

If yes, probably it's better to reindex.
Let's hope that no one has recorded links to those archived
messages (or at least not many have done that) because

a) only one week has passed and they had little time for that
b) since the indexing has been down so long they probably
did not look at the archives at all

And if it is to be done, the sooner the better!

If my opinion counts I'm
    +1

It's the first time I write +1 after having been promoted
to be a commiter, feels funny :-))

FWIW, the Avalon archives are indexing again as of last week. There is a
big gap, still. Apparently fixing the gap will break some bookmarks if
anyone points directly to an archived message. Does anyone consider that to
be a problem worth not having the full contents of the archive available?

Thanks for the pointers, Leo.

I guess your info together with the "infrastructurers" we will get
"it moving".

Thanks

the eyebrowse archive on nagoya.apache.org needs to be updated, which
you need to request with the infrastructure peeps. The
marc.theaimsgroup.com archive keeps working (though the name won't
change). To get the name change, you need to get the marc admin to do
that (he hasn't replied to my e-mail request for that). For
mail-archive.com, you need to use their interface

http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#newlist

for adding the list.

most important pointer: talk to the peeps on infrastructure@apache.org
for more pointers and help :D

cheers,
