http://subversion.tigris.org/...WARNING

The folder

http://subversion.tigris.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=260

still contains the "WARNING" with the following text:

WARNING: The release tarballs below will NOT necessarily work
when compiled against arbitrary versions of httpd or apr.
Subversion is still developing rapidly, and as a rule,
Subversion is defined to compile against the HEAD of httpd and
apr; any other combination of packages may not work. Please
don't ask for help unless you're using the latest versions of
everything. (In the near future, we'll start claiming
compatibilty with specific versions of apr and httpd.)

I believe, this warning is obsolete and can be deleted. Needless to
say it is intimidating?

Re: http://subversion.tigris.org/...WARNING

Posted by Ben Collins-Sussman <su...@collab.net>.
We used to have an official policy in place -- svn was only defined to
compile against httpd/apr HEAD at any given moment.

But now, I'm trying to change that policy. I'd like to be a bit more
conservative. I've been running svn against the latest released
versions of httpd/apr instead.

Of course, the problem with this is that svn HEAD may depend on a
small API tweak or bugfix in apr HEAD. So I guess we can only say
that svn *releases* work against httpd/apr releases.

Let me change the warning to explain this policy, and be less
intimidating.
