Flex mobile application & Accessibility

Hello everybody,

is it possible to include "accessibility" feature in a flex mobile
application ?

I just want to increase or decrease font size when user change accessiblity
font size property in device parameters.

This feature is implemented in the Flex SDK, or must be developped from
scratch ?

Thanks for your response ^^

Well, then just think it the other way round :)

Place a small button and a timeout, and assume the user is handicapped by
default: if he/she manages to press it, DISABLE the accesible behaviour of
the app :)

Of course, all of this just while the SDK manages to catch up with the real
world ;)

Cheers!

Thanks Javier, I'm agree with you about this workarround.

I was just hoping there is an ANE or native Air feature to get the
accessibility property, because if user has an handicap, it is possible
they can't access to the option.

And what if you don't? :)

Place a "enable accesibility" option in your app, store the setting in any
persistence mechanism, query it on startup, and return the "modified" DPI
if it is on :)

I know it's a workarround, but it IS a workarround :)

Thx Javier, but how to access to the property 'accessibility enabled' ?

I haven't seen anything to access or listening this device property...

P.S. By "bigger" i meant "smaller" :D (the smaller the DPIclass, the bigger
the UI) :)

Hi Tonic:

If the only thing you're looking for is "making it bigger", maybe you could
write your own ApplicationRuntimeDPI class, and return a "bigger"
runtimeDPI if your "accessibility enabled" conditions are met, so the whole
application will scale (i.e., bigger buttons, UI components, and so on) and
not just the fonts.

Just my 5 cents :)

Thanks for your response Alex.

I have't finded ANE for listening font size change, there is only ANE to
implements speech recognition, and it's only available for Android.

I don't know about "no way", but last I'd heard, AIR did not have
integration with the accessibility APIs on mobile devices. It might be
possible to wire it up with ANEs.

It would appear there is no way to implents accessibility for mobile.

Consequently, is there a simple way to know the current font size on a
device (with listeners or ANE), to change at runtime function of size ?

Thanks for your help :)

Anybody has implemented accessibility in mobile application ?

Thanks for your responses.

I tested with '-accessible' compiler option, but it not work on mobile, it
doesn't matter.

I feel that there is nothing for mobile :(

Hi Anthony, from your first mail i supposed you were looking for a
simple accessibility level, somehow in a "home made" technique like
simply change the font size as the user wanted, but reading the second
may, well, i was wrong.

Anyway Flex, speaking about Web Apps, is accessibility ready, i don't
know if the mobile components are, some of the Apache Flex creators
can help you a bit more.

Here accessibility links speaking about Flex web & AIR apps, probably
you can test if it works with mobile too:

Cheers

Re: Flex mobile application & Accessibility

Hi Angelo,

thanks for your response.

I am surprised that it is not implemented by Air or Flex framework. In this
case, what is the interest of the property 'accessibilityEnabled' ?

It's not so simple than your example, in a mobile application, you must take
care the resolution, the DPI of the device, etc.
There is a multiple couple of font size with these parameters and
accessibility.

And in my application I have a lot of styles that apply a font size, I am
surprised that there is not a manager to handle this global way.

And how do you know what font size to set dynamically if user change
accessibility parameters during runtime ? There is a property to know the
current accessibility value, or ANE to listen changes ?

Thanks ^^

Re: Flex mobile application & Accessibility

Hi Anthony,
yes it is possible.

In the simplest way you should just change the FontSize property at runtime
of the components you want to adapt... labels, buttons and so on ... you
can do it with label.setStyle('fontSize',100) for example...

Googling a bit i found this: http://kachurovskiy.com/2010/font-size-ctrl/
try to check it out!

Cheers!
Angelo
