* Window Manager - Linux version
* Gnome 2.16 or higher, with the gail 1.8.6 and the at-spi 1.7 packages,

- NO - selected> libatk (2.10.2-2ubuntu1) … instead

I see this is the correct way of doing things.
If you did the following try doing /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice
(in the terminal)
This should start your OpenOffice, please confirm.

With the exception of uninstalling libreoffice, these instructions
correspond to the instructions given in the Install Guide at for DEBs:
http://www.openoffice.org/download/common/instructions.html#linux-deb
Maybe the wording isn't as good as it could be?
We would certainly welcome changes to make this better.

Earlier today I promised to install Kubuntu and then OpenOffice 4.1.1 and list my actions.
I installed Kubuntu 14.04 32 bit (I have no spare 64 computer). I used the "out of the box" (i.e. default) settings.
When it was installed and started up correctly, I used Synaptic to uninstall libreoffice-core.
I downloaded Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz
double clicked on it so that it opened in the system archive manager, which extracted it to /Downloads/en-US (other languages will use a slightly different folder.
I opened a terminal and did
cd Downloads/en-US/DEBS (I already knew where I was going!)
and then
sudo dpkg -i *.deb and answered its prompt for my password.
After that command had finished, I then (still in the terminal) did
cd desktop-integration
and once more
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
After this was finished, links to the OO components had been installed in the Office group.
I hope this is of help to you.

Is there a way that we can analyze the package?
I think is apt-cache show <package>
I wonder about the AOO version of the repo for Xubuntu, can you please
tell us if the Xubuntu repo is up to date?

I normally use Xubuntu, where OpenOffice installs without problems. I have a spare computer, being refurbished to give to someone local in need of a computer. I'll install Kubuntu on it later today, then OO and note the process.

Re: Cannot Install OpenOffice v 4.1.1 on Linux
Posted by Alexandro Colorado <jz...@oooes.org>.
Make sure soffice exist and is not a broken link in /usr/bin/soffice
If you install OpenOffice from our website, it will reside on
/opt/OpenOffice/program/soffice
Otherwise, please check the pacakge information, googling here is the
openoffice package for Kubuntu:
https://launchpad.net/~apacheopenoffice
However is terribly outdate (3.4) currently we are on 4.1.1
My best recomendation is to download from our website.
