Using apache-1.3.35, when I try: "#apachectl configtest"
I get this error:
Syntax error on line XX of /path/to/included/file2:
Missing </VirtualHost> directive at end-of-file
file2 is inluded from from file1.
file1 looks like:
Listen www.example.com:80
<VirtualHost www.example.com:80>
SSLDisable
ServerName www.example.com
ServerAdmin webmaster@example.com
include /path/to/included/file2
</VirtualHost>
file2 only have some rewrite rules.
With apache-1.3.34 this error doesn't happen

See bugs 39531 snd 39545 for duplicates, as well as possibly 39513 for possibly
a deep traceback of what could be triggering the problem.

Depending on the exact set of include files, I found either the reported error,
with a line number beyond the end of the file in question, or a segfault.
(RHAS 3 update 5, gcc-3.2.3)
Glad to have it confirmed that I'm not crazy :-)

As much as we would like to tell you this is fixed, with the subdirectory
feature from 1.3.35 retained - the answer was to back out that patch.
This regression from 1.3.34 is resolved in 1.3.36, sans Include subdir/
new feature :(

This is being un-dupped; the two errors are really unrelated (wildcards,
and nesting). The patch is backed out for 1.3.36 forthcoming release,
but in terms of resolving the feature into a working patch, this group
of cases should remain independent of Include {} wildcard matching.
