{{MavenCli}} considers the {{-D}} arguments passed to Maven after the SLF4J logger has already been initialised:

            logging( cliRequest );
            version( cliRequest );
            properties( cliRequest );

To work around this, pass the arguments using {{MAVEN_OPTS}} instead, so they're applied directly by {{java}} rather than as part of Maven's initialisation:

MAVEN_OPTS=-Dorg.slf4j.simpleLogger.defaultLogLevel=warn mvn clean package -Pdemo
{noformat}

Alternatively, use {{mvn --quiet}} which will also set the underlying SLF4J level to {{ERROR}}.
