JetSpeed Velocity Examples

I have read the the Velocity information on the Turbine site, but I'm still
unclear of how Jetspeed can use Velocity.  Are there any examples out there?

Also, If I'm going to develop a porlet that is compatable with the new
Portlet API is the current documentation correct?
