According to my apache book (Laurie & Laurie, 2nd edition, p110), "Win32
lacks an encryption function [so] passwords are stored as plaintext". Is
this still the case with Win 2K?

Basic Auth is pretty basic anyway - does it really matter if the
passwords are stored encrypted on the server when they are transmitted
in plaintext (practically) on the netwrok?
