Hello,
Why the lenya live demo (http://olr.kbs.uni-hannover.de:8888) has a
better version of Kupu than the kupu shipped with lenya 1.2 ?

Simply, because they use lenya "1.2-dev". ;-)
The "1.2-dev" is on SVN. This is the manteinance version that is being
updated for the next release: "1.2.1". If you want you can use the SVN
version.
Also, you can only update kupu, but sometimes this is not only copy files.
