Returning an XML fragment in a SOAP response

In our .wsdl, we've defined an element in a response that can contain
unencoded XML fragments. The type definition is below:

	<xs:complexType name="xmlFragment" mixed="true">
		<xs:sequence>
			<xs:any namespace="##any" processContents="skip"
minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" />
		</xs:sequence>
	</xs:complexType>

When I run the service, I get the error: faultString: java.io.IOException:
java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: No serializer
found for class gov.loc.www.XmlFragment in registry
org.apache.axis.encoding.TypeMappingImpl@304043

When I look at the code for XmlFragment, I see the getSerializer method.
But, I notice that the static initializer for the class, which normally
registers the datatypes to be serialized for the class, is empty.

Is there some trick to returning a non-string-encoded XML fragment?

Thanks!

Ralph
