Deriving from complex types

I find my-self cutting-and-pasting a lot of complex
types.
Can I derive (or inherit) from complex types?
Siegfried

xsd:extension does not appear to be in the XML Bible
or Professional XML 2nd Edition.
Where can I find an example of how to use it?
