Summary: Multiple source directory in single package support.
Product: Ant
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Core
AssignedTo: dev@ant.apache.org
ReportedBy: cp1965@ROGERS.com
Often in a Java project, one needs to separate the java sources of a package
into different sub-directories to reflect some functional association. All
the java sources are still part of the same package but they reside in
different sub-directories (or ultimately some other directory). I find myself
in this situation often when the number of java sources in a package grows, it
is desirable to separate the sources of a package into sub-directories while
keeping the same package. By keeping the same package one avoids multiple
import statements.
Java does not prevent this sort of configuration. I find that the problem is
ANT itself. ANT forces the java source directory to be the same as the
package directory. This is obviously not always the case.
I suggest allowing the user to have different source directory and package
directory for certain source files. This would be an additional feature used
only in special cases.
