Question about the Pluto OM
I have some problems understanding the OM of Pluto. From what I have
seen a PortletEntity is the "instance" of a portlet for a specific user.
So if two users see the same portlet, they have their own PortletEntity
object.
Now, what I don't understand is the PortletApplicationEntity. How does
this fit into the picture?
Thanks

It would be -excellent- if you cared to add all these clarifications and
explainations to the Javadocs! Or I might have to ask all the questions
again! - really, it would be -very very good- if you guys could do that!

just to make it (hopefully) more clear I would put it this way:
- all portlet entities created from portlets of the same portlet
application are grouped into one portlet application enity in pluto 1.0
- one portlet application may have more than one application entity
based on this portlet application. Each portlet application entity
consists of portlet entities created out of portlets of this portlet
application
I really need to finish my whitepaper about the portlet container where
the object model will be explained....

Was this design created to support multiple container spec/impl as in the case
of WPS where it supports the jsr-168 spec and ibm's older portlet spec?

So (trust me, this is my last email on this topic :) ), if I have user
dependent portlet entities they are (can be) all grouped in one
application entity. Right?

No, I don't distinguish between something like this on the application
level. I just wanted to make clear that there is no concept like a user
bound portlet application enitity.

no, the thing is that you can group portlet entities from one portlet
application in portlet application enities. In the simplest case all
portlet enities of one portlet app are in the same portlet app entity,
like it is done currently in pluto. However, the concept allows to have
more than one portlet app entity per portlet app in order to create
different "instances" of the same portlet app.

Sorry, it seems that this is not my best day today, so I have to ask further
:)
I think, you distinguish between "global" portlet entites and "user" portlet
entities.
Is this right?
So, I can have a "global" PortletApplicationEnitity that groups "global"
portlet
entities and perhaps "user" PortletApplicationEnitity that groups "user"
portlet
entities.
Then I have in my portal application one instance of the "global"
PortletApplicationEnitity
and several instances (one per user) of the "user"
PortletApplicationEnitity.
Or in other words, if I have portlet entities that have a per user setting
(configuration/preferences) than I have to group these in one (or more)
PortletApplicationEntity that is a per "user" one.
Is this correct?

Yes, but they don't need to be all for the same user, it's just a bucket
for portlet entities of this portlet application and settings defined on
application level.

So, the PortletApplicationEnities are per user objects as PortletEntities,
right?
Thanks Stefan!

PortletApplicationEnities group PortletEnities together. It is an
additional abstraction that allows to create different application
enities out of a portlet application without needing to change the
deplyoment descriptor and re-deploy the portlet application.
